Want to become an SEO engineer, copywriter or designer? Then maybe you should consider the Designbysoap Online Internship. Launched in October 2010, we are the first company in the UK to offer such a programme to aspiring designers and digital marketers. We decided to start the initiative as a way of offering talented young people and university students a way into the industry, particularly given the current economic climate in Britain.
We currently offer four different internships:
SEO Internship
Our SEO internship is aimed at those wanting to forge a career in search engine optimisation and digital marketing. Interns will learn through completing increasingly in-depth tasks in all areas of the SEO, digital marketing and social media marketing disciplines. They will also be expected to complete additional reading and research online, both through their own initiative and from sites, publications and books suggested on the Designbysoap SEO internship reading list.
Interns will learn to become proficient at both on and off-site optimisation elements, as well as completing effective link-building campaigns and social media marketing exercises.
Copywriting Internship
The copywriting internship is aimed at budding journalists and those looking to gain experience in online copywriting. Interns will be involved in writing press releases, website copy, blog posts and article marketing. Copywriting interns will also gain experience in proof-reading and editing, as well as completing accurate, pertinent keyword research.
Graphic Design Internship
Our graphic design internship is aimed at those looking to make a living as a professional graphic designer. Interns will be able to spend their time with us working in all areas of graphic design, or can choose to specialise in one particular area. Interns can get involved in logo design, poster design, corporate branding, infographic design and/or promotional advertising.
Interns who show genuine talent will be given the opportunity to complete entire designs, which will be featured on the intern portfolio on the Designbysoap website.
Web Design Internship
Our web design internship is aimed at students looking to make a career as a professional web designer. Interns will learn to build websites using html and CSS, as well as working with Javascript and php. Interns will also learn to become proficient in the most popular content management systems, including WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and Magento.
General Information
Internships last for 3-6 months, at the end of which interns are guaranteed a reference from one of our directors for future job applications. As well as this (and being able to include Designbysoap on your CV), interns stand an extremely good chance of becoming one of our permanent freelancers.
Internships are unpaid, although any intern displaying genuine talent and ability will be offered at least one paid freelance job during the course of their internship.
You will not be required to travel for your internship, although some interns may be invited to one of our offices in Hereford or Brighton (expenses for these trips will be covered).
Interns will be required to complete a minimum of 5 hours per week; we have kept the minimum so low in order to allow students to complete our internship alongside their studies.
Application Requirements
Interns must be a minimum of 16 years old and a resident of the United Kingdom. Interns should either be studying at a UK university or college or have graduated no more than one year before the date of their application.
Graphic design and web design interns will need access to a copy of Adobe Photoshop (Illustrator is also preferred but not strictly necessary) and web design interns may need access to a copy of Adobe Dreamweaver. SEO interns may be required to download additional web browsers, as well as plugins and user scripts.
Please note, not all applicants will be accepted onto our internship scheme and applicants may be required to complete an interview either over the phone, via Skype or at one of our offices.
