The World’s Fastest 100m Runners [INFOGRAPHIC]
With Usain Bolt regaining his 100m World Title over the weekend at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, we thought an infographic covering the world’s fastest 100m runners would be an ideal follow-up to last weeks’s infographic charting the longest human space flights.
It will of course come as no surprise to find Bolt at the top of the list of the world’s fastest runners, but I thought it was interesting to see how many runners have broken the 10 second barrier in the 100m sprint; a threshold that seemed so difficult to break when I was younger. The amount of runners who have done the 100m in under 10 seconds has now skyrocketed – demonstrating the evolution of the sport and the effect Usain Bolt has had on other runners in the sport.
The infographic below uses data from alltime-athletics.com to chart all the runners that have broken the 10 second barrier, as well as 9.95s, 9.9s, 9.85s, etc. all the way down to Usain Bolt’s World Record time of 9.58 seconds:
